Kappa League: A Brief History
Kappa League is a signature component of Guide Right, the national service initiative of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. The program began in Los Angeles under the leadership of Mel L. Davis—an Elder Watson Diggs Awardee—and Edgar H. Bishop.
Originally known as the Kappa Instructional Leadership League, the program was founded on February 12, 1969. Its purpose was clear: to help young men grow, discover, and develop their leadership abilities in all areas of life. Through meaningful, challenging, and enriching experiences, participants were prepared to achieve personal success and to make positive contributions to their communities.
Recognizing its impact, the Grand Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. formally adopted Kappa League at the 56th Grand Chapter Meeting on August 12–15, 1970. Since then, Kappa League has become a national youth leadership model, shaping generations of young men to lead and serve with excellence.
